Makeda is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200), organizational consultant, educator, and wellness coach with over 35 years of experience supporting individuals and communities through healing-centered engagement. As a board member, Makeda plays a vital role in guiding the organization’s mission to offer yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to people impacted by the criminal legal system and under-resourced populations. Her trauma-informed teaching—Just Yoga—blends breathwork, mindful movement, and restorative practices, with a focus on Black women and families, youth development, and community wellness. Makeda’s classes are culturally responsive and inclusive, creating space for resilience, self-compassion, and embodied empowerment. Through her board leadership and teaching, Makeda works to ensure mindfulness tools are accessible to all people—as instruments of individual healing, ways to build community, restore justice, and reduce recidivism and incarceration. Her approach reflects a deep belief in the transformative power of wellness, advocacy, and collective care.
